HydroCast – Hydrological Forecasting and Data Assimilation
The HydroCast project was a 5-year (2012-2016) joint research project partly funded by the Innovation Fund Denmark. The project has developed and tested new methods and tools for hydrological monitoring and forecasting. This offers new possibilities for more effective predictions and warnings, control of water infrastructure, adaptive management and regulations.
Main results of the HydroCast project include:
- New improved precipitation forecast methods that combine traditional numerical weather forecast models with weather radars.
- New multi-variate data assimilation methods that combine hydrological modelling with observations from in-situ and satellite sensors.
- New improved hydrological forecasting tools that support a range of applications, such as flood forecasting and adaptive water resources management.
- Demonstration of the methods and tools developed on three case studies.
